The volume of treated effluent from the Homevale WWTW has increased due to the growing urban development and additional stormwater runoff. Discharging into the Kamfersdam has led to the average water level of the dam increasing and threatening the resident flamingo population, as well as the stability of the adjacent railway embankments. A mechanism was put in place to reduce the net flow into the pan and in turn controlling the water level in the pan by diverting water through a 13km DN500/DN700/PN10 FLOWTITE pipeline to the Vaal River.
